In most forms of poker, players are required to place a small bet, called a blind or ante, before being dealt cards. After the betting interval ends, each player shows his or her cards and declares whether he or she has the best hand.

If you have a good hand, it’s important to raise your bet. This forces weaker hands out of the pot and increases the overall value of the hand. Also, bluffing can be an effective strategy. However, it is important to note the other players’ body language and betting patterns to avoid revealing your bluffs.

If the player to your left bets a large amount, you should call their bet. This means that you match their bet with the same amount of chips in the pot. If the person to your left raised, you can say “call” and then make a bet of the same amount. You can also say “raise” to add more money to the betting pool.
