Poker is a card game that involves chance and risk, but also requires skill. Players place bets, or put chips into the pot that their opponents have to match or raise, according to a strategy chosen on the basis of probability, psychology and game theory.<\/p>\n
After an initial forced bet, called the ante or blind, a hand of cards is dealt to each player. The dealer then shuffles the deck and deals each player another set of cards, face up or down depending on the variation of poker being played.<\/p>\n
At this point, the first of what may be several betting rounds begins. Each player has the option to check (pass on betting), call or raise the highest bet so far. In most cases, each player will remain to see all of the community cards that are then dealt over the course of a few betting rounds.<\/p>\n
When the final cards are revealed, the winner is decided by the highest ranking hand. The highest hands include the royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, three of a kind and two pair. If the hands are identical, rank for rank, then it is a tie. Tied hands must be shared equally by the players. The rules of poker vary slightly by game and casino, but the basic mechanics are universal. There are dozens of different variations of poker, from Hold \u2019Em to Stud and Draw to Badugi.
